Dear Friend of Hadassah,
You’ve seen the pictures of devastation from Israel. Maybe you’ve heard from the first-responders, the survivors, the bereaved… Or stories of the growing number of civilian fatalities – 26 killed so far, deliberately targeted by Iranian missiles.
As you’d expect, Hadassah Medical Center is responding with the life-saving and life-restoring excellence that make it so critical to Israel’s national resilience.
We’re in maximum emergency mode. Only the most urgent cases are still hospitalized. Wherever medically possible, all other patients have been sent home and elective treatments postponed.
We must make room for the spiraling numbers wounded by the massive Iranian missiles that make it through Israel’s defenses. But with the top two floors of all hospital buildings closed, available secure space is at capacity and beyond.
Thanks to you, the Underground Emergency Hospital at the Gandel Rehabilitation Center is fully deployed on Mt Scopus, ensuring that more than 140 critical patients can receive life-saving care, including intensive care where necessary.
Another 200 patients from across hospital departments are now safely underground at Hadassah Hospital-Ein Kerem. Surgical, pediatric and orthopedic patients have been moved to two Protected Temporary Hospitalization Areas, while the Neonatal ICU now sheltering near the underground ORs.
The assumption is that this won’t be over any time soon. Days or weeks of Iranian attacks will cause casualty numbers to mushroom further.
Which is why we must, right now:
- Complete six more underground ORs at Hadassah Hospital-Ein Kerem. We need still more protective hospitalization capacity. We must be prepared for mass-casualty events in Jerusalem like those we’ve seen in Tel Aviv, Bat Yam, Haifa, Tamra and elsewhere – and be able treat casualties safely while we are under fire.
- Add 75 beds and more advanced treatment space at the Gandel Rehabilitation Center, so wounded patients can move out of over-burdened surgical wards while beginning their recovery more quickly.
- Immediately expand mental health facilities. Hadassah is the main address for thousands of traumatized Israelis, and the hospitals’ mental health services were already stretched to the limit before Iran’s missiles started falling.
That’s why Israel needs Hadassah.
That’s why Hadassah needs you.
That’s why we must stand together, now more than ever.
We’re proud to be standing with you! Thank you.
Am Yisrael Chai!
