These are exciting times for Hadassah Australia.
There is a genuine “buzz” in the air that our core programs, the Gandel Rehabilitation Center in Jerusalem and the Hadassah-Achotenu Ethiopian-Israeli Scholarship Program, are making a material difference in Israel.
Australian Jewry has stepped up magnificently to support both initiatives – our recent Rosh Hashannah campaign for the rehabilitation centre was our most successful ever. On the Achotenu front we are looking to welcome two of our graduates in Australia in late March. Their stories are inspiring, and their message of hope is affirming.
There is also “movement at the gate” organisationally.
The most significant is the appointment of Dorit Jaffe to the new role of CEO, Hadassah Australia (HA). Dorit brings relevant skills to the role and a knowledge of HA which has been honed over the almost four years that she has been leading our national development work.
Dorit’s appointment was triggered by the retirement of my close friend and HA confidente, Ruth Rosen, who has done an outstanding leadership job as our Executive Director for the past seven years. Under Ruth’s guidance HA has significantly strengthened its organisational infrastructure and our profile in the community.
HA is entering 2025, full of energy and confidence that our mission - contributing to the building of the State of Israel through health - is as relevant as ever.
We continue to aspire and dream of making a difference. As the Founder of Hadassah, and the inspiration for our work, Henrietta Szold, remarked: If you are going to dream – Dream Big.
