Healing Beyond the Battlefield: Rehabilitation and Resilience

These are challenging times. Six months have passed since the brutal attack on Israel on October 7. Since that day, Hadassah Hospital and Hadassah’s Gandel Rehabilitation Center in Jerusalem are at the forefront of the vital mission to save lives and heal the wounded.

From trauma to healing, Hadassah has treated many hundreds of war-wounded patients so far, patients who have undergone complex and lifesaving surgeries.  Since January, some patients have been hospitalised as in-patients in the new partially opened Gandel Rehabilitation Center, with a number also treated as out-patients.

Amid the ongoing war in Israel, Hadassah Hospital has readied itself for any eventual escalation by establishing and outfitting converted areas in both Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus into emergency facilities. These exceptional inpatient spaces were precisely planned with the objective of ensuring secure areas for all hospitalised patients not yet fit to return home.

In light of the devastating events of October 7, 2023, the requirement for specialised acute rehabilitation for Israel’s wounded has reached unprecedented levels, exacerbated by the pre-war shortage of rehabilitation beds per capita, particularly in Jerusalem.

Named after John Gandel AC and Pauline Gandel AC, the new Gandel Rehabilitation Center has gone a long way to address this unmet need.

Our thoughts are with the courageous soldiers and civilians in Israel who have given so much for the safety and security of our beloved homeland. Israel’s wounded, many grappling with severe physical injuries and the debilitating effects of mental trauma, require an unparalleled level of care.

We are at a critical moment in Israel’s history. Hadassah Hospital and its dedicated staff are playing a vital role in the midst of the ongoing war. As supporters and admirers of Hadassah, we can all take pride in its remarkable achievements.

Your generosity today is crucial. It will not only aid in the physical and mental recovery of Israelis in need but will also stand as a beacon of hope and solidarity. Every contribution, no matter the size, can help make a difference in the lives of those who have given so much.

Thank you for your unwavering support of our beloved homeland.
