David “DuSH” Barashi, Israel’s most famous medical clown and a dear friend of Hadassah Australia, recently took part in a special course in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, training local health professionals.
“For five fascinating, overwhelming and exciting days, Jews, Muslims, Russians and Uzbeks came together. Some religious, some of them secular but all of them speaking the same language, the language of the medical clown,” reported the organisation that initiated the activity, Dream Doctor Project in Israel.
The program included theoretical and practical sessions, visiting patients in the wards of two separate hospitals and at a children's hospice in Tashkent. “We focused on strengthening the role and character of the medical clown in these spaces and seeing the impact of a medical clown’s presence in real time. It was all-encompassing to see the evolution of many of the trainees during just five short days” added the organisation.

DuSH, Hadassah Medical Organization’s lead medical clown, reported that this experience left him humble and grateful. “That moment that you see her smiling and then laughing – is a moment that is worth everything. And the clown doesn’t calculate the days, but deep down he knows that there are only a few more days left…” reflected DuSH on Facebook.
