Goshen - Reimagining Childhood Healthcare

Meeting the senior Goshen team in Jerusalem, Ruth Rosen and Dorit Jaffe were immersed in the vision of reimagined childhood healthcare to embrace the development and wellbeing of every child, with special focus on better health equity for vulnerable communities.

Goshen Director, Yonit Levanon explained:

In Israel, paediatricians are hospital trained. They are outstanding healers when a child is sick. Yet many are not sufficiently trained to prevent, identify or treat, behavioural, developmental or mental health problems.” Moreover, she noted that “Community paediatricians are also insufficiently integrated with therapists and educators in the community, and, at the same time, parents can get lost in the maze of information overload available today”.

Each member of the team presented a specific aspect of the Goshen approach which is

  • To bring systemic change to the field and scope of community paediatrics
  • To provide online information access and evidence-based resources for parents in all sectors of Israeli society
  • To advance public policy to change the landscape and delivery of childhood wellbeing.

The needs are great, and Goshen’s impressive mission and re-imagining of a better future are summed up in the words of Goshen Chair, Prof Eitan Kerem: “Children are 30% of the population but 100% of our future”.
