Doctors in the Orthopaedic Department at the Hadassah Medical Organization have developed a new way to treat deep bone infections and promote bone regrowth.
“The latest technology is a breakthrough in the field, and with it we can provide patients with the best treatment, regrowing the bone inside their leg with minimal pain and with the highest chances of success,” Dr. Vladimir Goldman, director of the Deformation Service of Orthopaedics, recently told The Jerusalem Post.
Doctors utilised this technology to help 39-year-old Matanya Olami after bullets seriously shattered his leg in a terrorist attack in June of 2023, causing a severe internal infection. Hadassah’s orthopaedists treated him using “bone transport nail,” an innovative procedure to grow new bone in a region where there is a missing section of bone due to infection, trauma or disease.
Olami underwent months of intensive treatment and is now undergoing rehabilitation at the new Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus
