Hadassah International was honoured to host a group of senior State Liberal MPs from Melbourne, who visited Hadassah Hospital and the Gandel Rehabilitation Center in early June as part of a study mission to Israel.

The delegation was led by the well-known Member for Caulfield and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, David Southwick MP, and accompanied by AIJAC’s Jamie Hyams. A highlight of the impactful visit was the opportunity to meet Shlomo, a patient whose inspiring journey of injury, healing, and rehabilitation underscored the critical importance of initial emergency treatment followed by extensive acute rehabilitation in his recovery.

Shlomo’s optimism and deep love for his country and its people left a lasting impression. His heartfelt gratitude for the care he received at the Gandel Rehabilitation Center was evident in his shining eyes and genuinely joyful smile.
Together with David Southwick MP, the group comprised Chris Crewther MP, Member for Mornington and Liberal Party Whip in the Legislative Assembly and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Justice and corrections; James Newbury MP, Member for Brighton, Shadow Cabinet Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Equality and Manager of Opposition Business; David Davies MP, Member for Southern Metropolitan Region in the Legislative Council, Shadow Special Minister of State and Shadow Minister for the Arts and Creative Industries; Trung Luu MP, Member for the Western Metropolitan Region, Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs, Secretary of the Parliamentary Liberal Party and Chair of the Legal and Social Issues Committee, and Dr Renee Heath MP, Member for Eastern Victoria Region in the Victorian Legislative Council and a Member of the legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee.
