Each of us is a tiny light; together we create a powerful light

Two months have passed since the horrific and intolerable events of 7 October that changed our world. And since that day, each of us has continued to hope and pray for our families and friends.

On the very next day we at Hadassah Australia sent out our initial message of solidarity. Almost immediately, our small candle flame started to gather momentum and very quickly wonderful donations and good wishes from you, our supporters, began to flow. Through the generosity of our Australian community in Israel's darkest hour the light began to grow. Lights emanating from communities around the world began to come together in support of our beloved country and people.

This is the power of pulling together – so many different organisations working for the common cause of supporting and bringing hope and healing to the many hundreds of thousands of Israelis injured, displaced and in great need.

And specifically, you, our Hadassah Australia friends and supporters, you have been amazing! Together we have been a beacon of hope and light.

You can be assured that your donations are greatly appreciated and warmly received. The funds have been sent to support the Hadassah Emergency Campaign treating wounded soldiers and victims of the horrific terrorist attacks.

In the words of a senior Hadassah doctor, “we can’t stop the bloodshed, but we can stop the bleeding.” Together, we have responded to the identified needs of Hadassah, a hospital at the forefront of treating the most seriously wounded soldiers and terror victims.

We sincerely thank you for helping Hadassah and the people of Israel. Thank you for helping to prepare for those incoming wounded, saving the lives of those in need. Thank you for helping to ensure the hospital has the highest standard of technology and medical equipment to deliver the best treatment.

Hadassah has been at the forefront of medicine and nursing in Israel for more than a century, lighting the way for the country’s modern healthcare system.

Together, the lights of Hannukah will begin to shine tonight. Our first candle will be the candle of remembrance and hope.

We light the candle to remember our fallen, our injured and our needy.

Our candle will also shine for the outstanding Hadassah doctors, nurses and health professionals working tirelessly to offer help, healing and hope to all.

We wish you a safe and happy Hanukkah.
