Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre visit to Hadassah Hospital Jerusalem

Prof Sandro Porceddu, Director of Radiation Oncology at Melbourne’s prestigious Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, recently visited Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. Prof Porceddu’s visit included meetings with Hadassah Hospital’s leading oncology experts as well as with Hadassah Director General, Prof Yoram Weiss.

Prof Porceddu explored options for future collaboration with Hadassah Medical Center. While touring Hadassah’s Sharett Institute of Oncology with Director Prof Aron Popovtzer, Prof Porceddu met with a number of Hadassah’s leading oncology specialists, including Australian-born Dr Shani Paluch-Shimon, Hadassah’s Director of Breast Oncology.

And, in a recent development, Hadassah Medical Center and Roche Israel have signed an agreement to provide personalised medical care to oncology patients in Israel, making Hadassah the first Israeli medical centre able to offer precise, disease-targeted diagnosis and treatment at every stage of a patient’s illness.

Under the agreement, Hadassah will offer comprehensive genomic profiling using Roche’s AVENIO kit for solid tumour diagnostics as well as Foundation Medicine tests.

In addition to being the first hospital centre in Israel to sign an agreement with Roche to use the company’s unique diagnostic model, Hadassah is one of the first hospital centres in the world to do so.

"The implementation of the integrated model will enable us to provide patients with the most advanced and innovative diagnostic tests for cancer," said Prof Yoram Weiss, Director General, Hadassah Medical Center. "This collaboration is the result of dedicated and concerted work by our team and Roche Israel's team to establish a unique model that positions Hadassah at the forefront of personalised cancer care in Israel and worldwide.”
