Purim 2019 has come and gone but the warm afterglow lingers - as do the smiles on the faces of over 1000 children in Melbourne, Sydney and Jerusalem. They shared in the joy of Purim through the combined efforts of Hadassah’s amazing Dream Doctors in Jerusalem and the wonderful Starlight Captains in Sydney and Melbourne.

In what is becoming a happy international tradition Hadassah Australia linked up again with Hadassah Hospital, Akim, the Starlight Children’s Foundation, The Australian Multicultural Foundation, Our Big Kitchen and Access to deliver Mishloach Manot packages to hospitalised children in Hadassah Hospital Jerusalem, the Royal Children Hospital and Monash Children’s in Melbourne and the Randwick Children’s and Westmead Children’s hospitals in Sydney.

Children at the Monash and Randwick Children’s Hospitals also enjoyed baking their own festival treats making hamentashen filled with jam. This activity was absolutely contagious as many parents couldn’t resist the fun of rolling the dough and adding a few of their own creations to the cookie sheets, baking with their children. See a special video message from the Starlight Captains at Monash Children's Hospital below:

The story of Purim was shared through puppet shows, emphasising the importance of multiculturalism and understanding one another, as well as the joy in celebrating seasonal festivities together.

The opportunity of healing with happiness is no more evident than witnessing the sparkle in a child’s eye, or the tear in a parent’s eye – for the joy and relief provided by the provision of fun and happy engagement.
