The Rehabilitation Dream

Adjacent to Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus, a magnificent building, the Gandel Rehabilitation Center, is fast developing and it will certainly be a dream come true when the modern, world-class rehabilitation facility opens in 2023.

What a thrill it was for Hadassah Australia President Ron Finkel AM to see how quickly the project was progressing when he visited the site in May with Hadassah Hospital’s Director of Development, Donors and Events Department, Gidon Melmed.

Standing outside the expanding eight-story building, Ron said:

This much-needed rehabilitation centre is truly Australia’s gift to Jerusalem. I am so excited to see first-hand the construction of this visionary gift from Melbourne’s John and Pauline Gandel and their family. It is providing a 21st-century realisation of the spirit and values of Hadassah Founder Henrietta Szold, and of her famous words: 'Dream, and when you dream – dream big'.

The Gandel Rehabilitation Center will meet the recovery needs of the people of Greater Jerusalem, the fastest-growing urban area in Israel with the highest proportion of elderly residents in the country. It will restore the independence, dignity and physical capabilities of victims of terror, injured soldiers, stroke victims, and patients suffering from trauma or disease.

Patients and their families will no longer need to travel vast distances to access rehabilitation services which include 132 beds, hydrotherapy pools, clinics, hotel rooms for visiting families, beautiful rooftop terraces and outdoor garden areas.

This is a centre that will transform lives and bring hope and joy to many thousands of people.

A signature donor is wonderful, but it isn’t enough... A significant amount still needs to be raised to make this critical project happen!

This is a wonderful opportunity for Australians from all walks of life to support a once-in-a-generation capital campaign, the Gandel Rehabilitation Center Australia’s life-saving gift to Jerusalem.
