Attracted and inspired by the program’s impact, Michal Herzog declared;

Achotenu is such a wise program and such an important program. That is because it doesn’t ignore the challenges of Aliyah and absorption but alongside them it looks at the enormous advantages and the wonderful opportunity brought to the entire State of Israel by the Ethiopian immigration.

Scholarships deliver a pathway for disadvantaged Ethiopian-Israelis to gain a university education leading to a guaranteed career in healthcare. At the same time, the Hadassah-Achotenu Ethiopian University Scholarships in Health assist in resolving the chronic nursing and occupational therapist shortage in Israel.

Representing the organisation that initiated the program, Judy Lowy, Director of La’Ofek shared;

The five-year academic Achotenu program advances the students professionally, not just for themselves but also for their families, many of whom underwent arduous journeys in the search for a better, more secure life in Israel.

Achotenu nursing graduates and students were thrilled to receive the recognition from Israel’s First Lady and share their appreciation for the opportunities created by the program.

Inbal, an Achotenu nursing graduate shares the powerful impact that Achotenu has made in her family;

My brother has been observing me and sees me as a role model. He is now studying at a college in the south. The fact that I am studying at university has not only impacted my family, but also my friends, all of whom now want to advance themselves. In my mind, this is pretty amazing.

Hadassah Australia creates sustainable social impact through healthcare and collaborative medical research to support a thriving, inclusive Israeli community and improve global health. Achotenu is a Hadassah Australia program that provides scholarships in health for young Ethiopian-Israelis.

Ron Finkel AM, President of Hadassah Australia, thanked supporters;

The remarkable support for the program by the Australian Jewish Community is a wonderful expression of our ongoing desire to be part of the Zionist dream, to continue to build and make a real impact on Israeli society. We are building an Australian Achotenu community and connecting a new generation of Australians to Israel through this high impact health program.
