In the heart of Jerusalem, a transformative program is changing lives—both for its participants and for the future of Israeli healthcare. The Hadassah-Achotenu Ethiopian-Israeli Scholarships in Health are empowering young Ethiopian-Israelis to pursue degrees in nursing and occupational therapy, while addressing Israel’s critical shortage of qualified healthcare professionals.
Many Achotenu scholars are the first in their family to obtain a university degree, becoming role models and contributing to a more inclusive and equitable Israel.
As Achotenu graduate nurse Inbal says: “I always wanted to do something meaningful and rewarding in life. As a paediatric nurse, I feel I am making a difference. I can confidently say that without the Hadassah-Achotenu program I wouldn’t be where I am today. I want to thank all the program supporters from the bottom of my heart. You are helping so many people, just like me, to fulfil our dreams.”
Ethiopian-Israelis, who represent a vibrant and deeply committed part of Israeli society, continue to face persistent gaps in education, employment, and economic opportunity.
The Achotenu program is bridging these divides, offering not just scholarships, but comprehensive support, including preparatory courses, clinical experience, tuition fees, living expenses, mentoring and career guidance.
