Hadassah Medicos - Part of the Israeli Delegation to Turkiye

Hadassah medicos in Turkiye

Almost as soon as the terrible news of the earthquake became known, a number of Hadassah Hospital medicos began organising. They reached Turkiye as part of the Israeli relief delegations. One of the doctors said: We are going on a mission for Hadassah and the State of Israel to help the wounded as much as possible in the field. We will give of ourselves wherever we are needed”.

Avital Dotan, a nurse in the Recovery and Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah, was chosen to fly with an IDF delegation to Turkey, where she is a partner in establishing and operating a field hospital.

“In recent days we shared the work entirely with the local Turkish team. The stories are heartbreaking.”

She added: “The Turks really get into things here; following a break, they arrange the department in their way. We work together with them to make sure that there is proper overlap and that the treatment continues when we leave.”

The team includes Dr Marc Romain, a senior intensive care physician with expertise in nephrology and anaesthesiology; Dr Yuval Maroz, a senior anaesthesiologist; Dr Avraham Alpert, emergency medicine specialist, and Dr Itai Basel, paediatrician, Avital Dotan, a nurse in the Recovery and Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah, Dr Amichai Ben Ari, a Neuropsychologist, and Osnal Guri, a Clinical Psychologist, who are part of the Israeli Coalition of Trauma mission to Turkey.

Kol Hakavod – Hadassah and Israel are always ready to assist in a global emergency.

On behalf of the Hadassah community in Australia, we wish the team good luck – Behatzlacha – in their life saving mission.
