From humble beginnings as a small “outpost” run by volunteers, Hadassah Australia has grown into a very successful organisation with a permanent office and professional staff, backed by a growing base of supporters across the country. Hadassah Australia provides substantial and meaningful support for Hadassah Hospital, both financially and through a range of collaborative programs and activities.
Hadassah Hospital is the pre-eminent medical institution in Israel. Its 2 state-of-the-art campuses in Jerusalem have over 1100 beds combined and handle over 1,000,000 patient admissions per annum. With more than 5000 employees, Hadassah is the largest non-government employer in Jerusalem. It is directly responsible for the well-being of hundreds of thousands of patients, staff and their families, who between them represent Jerusalem’s extraordinary and unique mix of faiths, nationalities, races and cultures.
Surprisingly for a major city in Israel, Jerusalem has no public hospitals. Hadassah (established in 1918 by HWZOA), relies heavily on support from donors and sponsors from Australia and around the globe. Hadassah people share a commitment to outstanding health care, medical education and ground-breaking research, and contribute millions of dollars every year to the growth, development and successful outcomes of the Hadassah Hospital.
Hadassah Australia gives practical, local expression to the mission of the Hadassah Hospital through:
- Healing – by “adopting” the Jerusalem Crisis Intervention Centre (JCIC), a walk-in clinic in the centre of the city for children and teens manifesting early stages of psychological stress (a major problem in a city where a high number of terrorist incidents have occurred and over 40% of the residents are under 14);
- Teaching – by delivering every year a national program of Orations and conferences, which see Hadassah Australia contribute significantly to public debate on medical and health issues; and
- Research – by establishing AUSiMED, a Foundation that sponsors collaborative medical research between Australian researchers and their Israeli counterparts.
Hadassah Australia seeks donations and sponsorship from the Australian Jewish community
so it can continue its support of the life-saving work of Hadassah Hospital.
Jerusalem’s health depends on it!
Contributions to Hadassah Australia for the JCIC and AUSiMED are FULLY TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
